Edith’s Road Report…
There are a few classic moments in one’s life, you know, the ones you will never forget: perhaps your wedding day, the birth of your first kid, maybe a bucket list holiday to some awesome place like the Grand Canyon or Lake Louise. Well, this amazing weekend will be right up there for Richard and me, starting with the seaplane ride from Ganges: such a treat, no ferry line-ups or crowds at the coffee shop. One feels like a celebrity, zipping into the heart of Vancouver in half an hour.

ArtSpring’s Marvelous Marv
Jasper Wood has established a flourishing reputation as a violin soloist through his frequent performances with many of North America’s finest orchestras, having also garnered acclaim for his dazzling performances as a recitalist and chamber musician. Jasper is Associate Professor of violin and chamber music at the University of British Columbia.
A poetic encounter between strings and voice, Constantinople effortlessly transports their audiences to the epics of the Mandingo Kingdom to the music of the Persian Court. Constantinople has earned an international reputation for its unique juxtaposing of early musical sources with the living traditions of the Middle East. The ensemble describes this joint crossing of shared regions of the imagination like a deep breath before the inexorable march of time and the world.
Each birthday, Krapp, a failed writer, records on tape his thoughts and impressions of the previous year. But on his 69th he relives a forty year past pivotal love affair that he’d largely forgotten. Krapp’s Last Tape, a one-act play, is a masterpiece of twentieth-century theatre by one of its legends – Samuel Beckett, author of Waiting for Godot, Happy Days, and Endgame. Written in 1958, it is perhaps Beckett’s most autobiographical work, a riveting exploration of an artist’s life set against the inexorable march of time, a haunting exploration of how our past continues to dominate our present.
In 2016, ArtSpring hosted celebrated performer, Tara Cheyenne for a summer residency to work on and create a new piece. Now she returns to the island to perform this 55-minute piece; a groundbreaking hybrid of stand-up comedy with dance presented at ArtSpring on Thursday, April 19 7:30 pm; bar 6:30 pm. A talk-back session will follow the performance.
