CBC Celebrity Violinist Plays ArtSpring with Prestigious Pianist
Jasper Wood has established a flourishing reputation as a violin soloist through his frequent performances with many of North America’s finest orchestras, having also garnered acclaim for his dazzling performances as a recitalist and chamber musician. Jasper is Associate Professor of violin and chamber music at the University of British Columbia.
No stranger to the airwaves, Jasper is regularly on the CBC, Bravo, the Knowledge Network, and heard frequently on National Public Radio in the United States. Winner of two of the most distinguished prizes awarded by the Canada Council for the Arts; Sylva Gelber Award and the Virginia Parker Prize, he is an in-demand teacher and adjudicator for many prestigious competitions all over the world.

ArtSpring is thrilled to present Jasper Wood on May 24 with pianist, David Riley, whom many will recognize from BBC Radio with renowned pianist Jeffrey Kahane (Mendelssohn 4-hands), NPR Performance Today and Morning Edition, CBC National Radio, and WQXR and WNYC in New York City. In 2008, David won the Canadian Independent Music Awards ‘Favourite Classical CD’ and ‘Best Music’ at the 2007 Silver Wave Film Festival for performances of Beethoven, Ives, and Kroll on CBC Television.
Along with violinist Jasper Wood, he received the 2004 East Coast Music Award ‘Best Classical Recording’ for a CD of violin and piano works of Igor Stravinsky. Other violinists with whom Mr. Riley has concertized include Juyoung Baek, Jennifer Frautschi, Ilya Gringolts, Phillipe Quint, and Giora Schmidt, along with cellists Denise Djokic and Jesus Morales.

Together, Wood and Riley will perform a stunning program of Chaconne in g minor; Sonata in G Major, Op.13; They Made A Bicycle Fly (world premiere); Nigun; Allegro in G Major; Sonatina, Op.100; Five Melodies, Op.35a; and closing with Banjo and Fiddle, William Kroll (1901-1980).
