The Salt Spring Kidd Pivot Project

SS KP ProjectRemember the spectacular dance film An Evening with Crystal Pite at the Netherlands Dans Theatre we screened last fall? It featured choreography by Crystal Pite, “one of the hottest choreographers on the planet” (according to the Vancouver Sun). We definitely agree. Now, Crystal will visit us on Salt Spring next week with her dance company Kidd Pivot for three days of events and workshops.

On Thursday, May 22 we begin with a film night and chat with Crystal Pite at the GISS Dance Studio. This will be an extraordinary chance to converse with an incredible dance professional and see her work on screen.

On Friday, May 23, in addition to a workshop for the high school dancers at the Gulf Islands Secondary School, Crystal and the Kidd Pivot dancers will teach two workshops for the public: a workshop for Salt Spring community dancers at Antler Ridge Studio (211 Horel Road) at 1pm and a workshop for advanced and pre-professional dancers at GISS at 5pm.

On Saturday, May 24 at the GISS Dance Studio at 9am, Friday workshop attendees are invited to spend the morning with Crystal and company putting what they learned into action by creating a choreographic project. The public is also invited to attend and watch the creation unfold into a finished product.

To register for the workshops and film screening, call the Box Office at 537-2102 or visit us online, and also make sure to confirm your registration by emailing slanger@sd64.bc.ca. All events are $20 each (except Saturday, which is free). Payments can be made at ArtSpring (by phone or online) or at the door.
