Katie Watt: A Retrospective
Katie’s work is inspired by her somatic and tactile relationship with dance and nature.
She predominantly focuses on the human body utilizing form, colour and shadow to depict darker themes.
Katie spends long afternoons running and dancing through damp mossy forests, singing in summer rain storms and swimming in rough winter seas. She will often meander off-trail along fallen trees, eating wild raspberries and tucking Nootka rose petals and fir resin into her pockets.
Taking experiences and imagery from the environment she expresses those feelings to invite an emotional response within the viewer.
This collection of paintings embodies these themes and the pieces are selected from work spanning the last three to five years with a handful from her much earlier work.
Katie is a Canadian artist born and raised on Salt Spring Island where she is currently based.
