The Salt Spring Island Conservancy and Salt Spring Forum co-present J.B. MacKinnon, best-selling author of The Once and Future World: Nature As It Was, As It Is, As It Could Be and co-author of the renowned 100-Mile Diet
MacKinnon will speak about the incredible impact that humans have had on the planet’s natural integrity. He says that humans have altered all but about 10% of the planet and we’re now in the midst of a major extinction of many species. We are also are facing the severe, looming impacts of climate change. MacKinnon claims that the conservation mandate of our time must focus on restoration of natural systems, something in which the Salt Spring Island Conservancy is strongly involved.
This event is a fundraiser for the Salt Spring Island Conservancy. It will feature a talk by the author, time at the end for questions from the audience, and a brief conversation with J.B. MacKinnon and local panelists on the nature of Salt Spring as it is, was and could be.
