The Salt Spring Forum presents Chief Roger William of the Tsilhqot’in Nation and Jack Woodward QC, the lead lawyer in the recent case before the Supreme Court of Canada, “Tsilhqot’in Nation v. British Columbia.” Since the Supreme Court’s monumental decision this June regarding aboriginal title, First Nations have more power to say “no” to resource-related projects on their traditional lands.
Roger William is Chief of the Xeni Gwet’in, one of six bands that make up the Tsilhqot’in Nation. Jack Woodward QC is Canada’s leading expert on aboriginal law. He is a long-time resident of Salt Spring Island.
This event takes place at 8:00 p.m. (Please note the later-than-usual start time). Proceeds from the event will be donated to the Tsilhqot’in Nation.
