For ArtSpring’s 25th anniversary Seth Berkowitz was commissioned to create a Lobby Art installation celebrating ArtSpring’s history over the past 25+ years. By creating 12 printed panels, representing notices and posters attached to the plywood hoarding often found around construction sites, a series of digital collages are installed in ArtSpring’s lobby for the April festivities. Berkowitz incorporated materials dating from back in the 1980s, when the idea of an arts centre was barely a gleam in the eyes of a core organizing committee and spanning up to the present day.
The collages are an artistic interpretation and celebration of the successes, trials and tribulations, and accomplishments of this small but mighty community arts centre.
Berkowitz is immensely appreciative of the valuable materials generously donated and lent by members of the community and ArtSpring for this installation. He especially thanks the Salt Spring Island Archives and the Gulf Islands Driftwood.
Berkowitz is an award winning photographer and artist who has been associated with ArtSpring for a very long time in multiple capacities. You can often find him volunteering in the box office Tuesdays mornings.
The exhibition can be seen throughout the month of April during box office hours Tuesday-Friday 10am-2pm, during evening or weekend performances, and the duration of the 25th Anniversary Festival.
