[Dir: Zach Carver, USA, 2020, 99 min.]

Described as “the Iditarod, on a boat, with a chance of drowning, being run down by a freighter, or eaten by a grizzly bear,” the annual Race to Alaska is a daunting 750-mile non-motorized journey from Port Townsend, Washington, up the treacherous Inside Passage to Ketchikan, Alaska. This entertaining and inspiring documentary follows the competitors through one of the most complex waterways in the world, featuring 15-knot currents, gale-force winds, freezing cold, fatigue and endless unknowns. First prize: $10,000. Second prize: a set of steak knives. Join this rollicking adventure with the quirky and daring individuals – from lifelong sailors to newbies, from Olympic athletes to high school students, on everything from sailboats to paddleboards – who accept this unique challenge to prove that there’s more than one way to do the hardest thing you’ve ever done.
