Once Upon a Time was written for and premiered by the Penderecki String Quartet as part of the 2015 Guelph Lecture – On Being Canadian. The sounds of funk and disco colour the piece via quotations, misquotations, and allusions to various music. Composer, teacher, and Salt Springer, Peter Hatch has composed works ranging from orchestral and chamber music to instrumental theatre, electroacoustics, and installations.

The Penderecki String Quartet began their career as winners of the Penderecki Prize at the National Chamber Music Competition in Poland in 1986. Now based in Waterloo, Ontario where they have been Quartet-in-Residence at Wilfrid Laurier University since 1991, The Penderecki String Quartet has become one of the most celebrated chamber ensembles of their generation.

Generously sponsored by Regan & Lorrie Hunt.
