Artist Descriptions:
Jan Lisiecki, the winner of Gramophone Magazine’s prestigious Young Artist of the Year award in 2013, joins us on Tuesday, March 3 at 7:30 pm. He is a prize-winner in seven international competitions and has already released three highly acclaimed recordings – his Chopin Etudes were nominated for a Juno award – and he plays solo recitals and with major orchestras around the world.
Imagine the sound of a Brazilian Carnaval in the Appalachian Mountains. A sound where dynamic percussion instruments rumble beneath blues drenched vocals, telecaster twangs, accordion acrobatics, and folksy fiddle tunes. Imagine Matuto. This well-loved band plays at ArtSpring Wednesday, March 4 at 7:30 p.m. and their dynamic music will be sure to have you dancing!
ArtSpring’s new Executive/Artistic Director, Cicela Månsson, a graduate of the Faculty of Music at McGill and an accomplished coloratura soprano, performs on Friday, March 6 at 7:30 p.m. Her tastes range from musical theatre to jazz to classical repertoire. She’ll treat us to an evening of songs from Gershwin, Bernstein, Donizetti and a wide variety of her favourite works.
One actor becomes six different guitarists, each with his own distinctive voice, views and musical style (Blues, Jazz, Rock, Classical, Folk and Country) in Six Guitars on Saturday, March 7th at 7:30 p.m. The characters play music, share their history and celebrate or skewer the other genres. Hilarious, charming and at times surprisingly poignant, Six Guitars has toured North America since its premiere in 2010, earning awards and applause everywhere.
