Jungle: Tangling with Complexity is the name of Mary Laucks’ latest exhibit of abstract and non-representational paintings in the ArtSpring lobby. Laucks uses acrylic paint and media combined with scraping and gouging to create complex surfaces on a variety of supports. She creates visual complexity by layering contrasting, and sometimes discordant, colours and whimsically marking each layer. Eyes On Nature is a visually-extravagant photographic tour through seldom-seen corners of the natural world. Science educator and naturalist, David Denning, has used microscopes, macro equipment, underwater cameras, and telephoto lenses to explore a wide range of living subjects, from the almost-magical animals that dart around in our oceans to the endearing birds and wildlife at the other end of our binoculars. During the month of March, members of the SSI Painters Guild show their artwork that was initiated during workshops, collaborative activities, or drawing sessions hosted by the Guild. The show is in the Artspring lobby and can be enjoyed by show patrons, and by the general public during Artspring business hours. The Guild creates write-ups on the different workshops and activities to display beside the works originated in them.
