“I’m in tune with the beauty of winter’s heart”. These evocative, closing words from Mark Hayes’ ‘Winter Heart’ set the theme for Viva Chorale!’s concert celebration of the coming holiday and winter season. Led by Choral Director Debbi Toole with accompanist Chris Kodaly, the music will travel across time from 1591, with Palestrina’s ‘Hodie Christus’, to the modern classic ‘Winter Wonderland’. Songs like beautiful ‘Cantique de Jean Racine’ by Gabriel Faure give the concert a classical feel, while again we return to modern times with ‘Snow’ from Irving Berlin’s White Christmas.
The Viva Chorale! ladies will present ‘Snow Angel’ by Canadian composer Sarah Quartel. Here, the singers will be accompanied by cellist Jane Phillips. The zesty Cuban Salsa piece ‘Cantar!’ (Sing!), and the spiritual ‘Amen’ will provide lively interest and get your toes tapping. Vera Algoet will bring her percussion talents to our closing number, the Nigerian folk song ‘Mojuba’, arranged by Vancouver’s Brian Tate.
Please join us on either November 22nd or 23rd and celebrate ‘Winter’s Heart’ with Viva Chorale!
