Viva Chorale presents a concert featuring the choral suite “The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace” composed by Karl Jenkins and dedicated to the victims of the Kosovo crisis. A small chamber ensemble will accompany this composition. The title work is based upon a 15th century folk melody called “L’Homme Armé”. Jenkins’ incredible gift for melody uses excerpts from the Catholic Mass and other sources, is modern and emotionally engaging. The instrumental ensemble is the perfect counterpoint to the voices of the choir. Also featured are songs of love from countries that have experienced war. This includes a setting of a Ukrainian prayer arranged by Andrea Ciona, a movement from Eric Whitacre’s Five Hebrew Love songs and a gorgeous setting of a Syrian song arranged by Shireen Abu Khader. This concert will be a beautiful way to remember our veterans and to reflect upon the current global issues.
