Viva Chorale! (formerly Viva Voce!) ‘Celebrates Life’ in their exciting fall concert. Led by Choral Director Debbi Toole with accompanist Chris Kodaly, the choir will be joined by the Viva Chorale Youth in a celebration of birth and life across time and place, with the universal themes of peace, joy and well-being.
The 14th century chant ‘Gaudete’ and Mozart’s 17th century ‘Misericordias Domini’ are tributes to the birth and the eternity of worship. From the 20th century, a composition such as Morten Lauridsen’s ‘Dirait-on’ is the confirmation of an empowered life through self-reflection. Viva Chorale! celebrates the seemingly limitless potential of a newborn child in ‘Tabula Rasa’.
Joining Viva Chorale! on stage will be violinist Carolyn Hatch and her student Safiya Carroll-Labelle, providing accompaniment for Dietrich Buxtehude’s ‘In Dulce Jubilo’. Jane Phillips will play cello with the women of the choir for Sarah Quartel’s popular and contemporary ‘Snow Angel’. Laurent Boucher will bring his percussion talents to the Kenyan community welcoming song ‘Wana Baraka’, sung in Swahili. Come and enjoy these pieces and many more!
