The Salt Spring Forum, in partnership with the Salt Spring Film Festival Society, present award-winning author John Vaillant and Conflict Tiger, the film that inspired his 2010 book, The Tiger. The film will be screened and then will be followed by a Forum discussion featuring the author.
John Vaillant is an award-winning writer. John Vaillant’s first book, The Golden Spruce (Knopf, 2005), was a bestseller and won several awards, including the Governor General’s Award for Non-Fiction. His most recent book, The Tiger (Knopf, 2010), is also an award-winning bestseller. Of particular interest to Vaillant are stories that explore collisions between human ambition and the natural world.
Conflict Tiger, the film that inspired Vaillant’s book, is an environmental thriller shot on location in the Russian Far East in the winter of 2004. Released in 2006, the film has been shown world-wide, winning 12 festival Grand and Jury prizes. In 2010, Conflict Tiger was nominated for ‘Environmental Film of the Decade’ at the Green Globe Awards in L.A. The film’s director, Sasha Snow, is now working on another drama-documentary based on Vaillant’s first book, The Golden Spruce.
A portion of the proceeds from this event will be donated to tiger conservation.
