Is an “AIDS-free generation” possible? If Julio Montaner, Director of the BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS, has anything to do with it, an AIDS-free future is indeed possible. For the Salt Spring Forum event, Dr. Montaner will discuss “Winning the Battle Against HIV/AIDS”.
Julio Montaner was one of the first to argue that the “end of AIDS” was possible, and his recent work using HIV treatment as an HIV prevention strategy has shown to be successful. By using Highly Active Antiretroviral Therapy (HAART), the chances of transmitting HIV/AIDS are reduced drastically and life expectancy is highly increased. Alongside this treatment, Dr. Montaner argues for accessibility and socio-economic justice so that all populations have access to adequate healthcare.
In addition to his leadership of the BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS, Dr. Montaner holds the Chair in AIDS Research at the Faculty of Medicine at UBC. He is Past-President of the International AIDS Society.
Please join the Salt Spring Forum for an informative and inspiring evening with him!
