All the colour, magic and delight that is loved about South American literature, stories and art is embraced in this award-winning Latin American film. Escribeme Postales A Copacabana (Write Me – Postcards to Copacabana) connects the tangible world with the spiritual world, reality with fantasy, hope with disappointment, and desire with flight. Shot near Lake Titicaca in Bolivia, the lovely, lushly visual “Escribeme Postales A Copacabana” has a charming cross-cultural, magical realist sensibility.
The backdrop is a long ago love affair between a Bavarian man and Bolivian woman who wed and shared life together in South America. Now a grandmother, Elena remembers her late German husband and frets over her fatherless granddaughter, Alfonsina and her future. The tale of the generations of this family is fueled by the universal desire to go out and meet other worlds albeit in a creative and imaginative way. The film is beautifully shot, especially its sumptuous cinematography amidst Bolivian vistas and magical realism.
A must see; the best of foreign independent film!
