The Salt Spring Film Festival presents the award-winning film Any Day Now. Inspired by a true story from the late 1970s, this powerful and heartbreaking film has been winning Audience Awards at festivals across North America. Alan Cumming and Garret Dillahunt play a couple who take in a teenager with Down syndrome when he’s abandoned by his drug-addicted mother. The building of a secure family unit is interrupted, however, when the disapproving authorities intervene. The couple must fight prejudice and a biased legal system to retain custody of the child they love. With amazing performances from Cumming and Dillahunt, this moving film looks at the legal and social issues around gay adoption – as relevant today as they were in 1979.
