Tuesdays-Thursdays, January 5-January 31, 10am-1pm, and before evening concerts.
This show is an opportunity for Photo Club members to submit any image the photographer wants to exhibit, without the constraints of size or subject matter.
Some members submit their most unusual, most beautiful, most interesting or most technically challenged image of the preceding year. Some submit their most comical, studious, colourful or accomplished composition. Some simply submit their favourite image or one that caused deeper thought in themselves or their peers.
Most of the images are offered for sale, some are not and are just for ‘show’; this is the artist’s choice. Contact information is provided on the information tags for each image.
“This is what makes this particular show interesting and fun for everyone, the photographers and the viewing audience,” says Wendy Rosier, Club Past President. “We have wonderful, talented photographers, some with lots of experience, some with very little. This show is an opportunity for everyone, regardless of their technical expertise, to have their work seen and appreciated by everyone who walks through the lobby of ArtSpring for whatever reason during the month of January.”
The SSPC was founded in 2009 as a group intended for the exchange of ideas and technical knowledge regarding photography. Our membership ranges from 65 to 115 and represents a wide range of photographic knowledge and experience, from beginners to retired professionals, united by a common love of photography, with an enthusiastic willingness to support and encourage each other. Visit our website at www.ssphotog.ca
SSPC offers several venues for sharing ideas and technical knowledge. The first is our formal monthly meeting, convened the second Wednesday of each month, 7pm, currently held online via Zoom. Meetings begin with club business, move to a short educational presentation, and are followed by a friendly critique and an appreciation session of members’ submitted photographs relating to that particular month’s theme.
The second venue is our website, a place where members can post their images and blogs and offer critique on other members’ work. Lively discussions on the site can go beyond the technical to the philosophical, inspiring thought-provoking questions and greater creative expressions.
Prior to COVID our third venue was an informal weekly coffee-and-muffin gathering on Monday mornings at 10 am. We are waiting patiently for the day to come when we can meet again to discuss everything photographic, and sometimes entirely non-photographic.
Those wishing to purchase images can make arrangements through the ticket office in the ArtSpring foyer.
