Led by Music Director Dawn Hage, the Salt Spring Concert Band presents Music for the Heart and Soul, an evening of storytelling without words. The concert features music that describes courage, survival, heroism, exuberant love of life and profound loss. The listener will embark upon a journey of the senses and the soul, from the depiction of a slave escape in They Shall Run and Be Free, the prayer for forgiveness in Amazing Grace to the tragic tale of The Witch and the Saint. An American Elegy and Les Miserables confront tragedy and heroism in ordinary life. Heroes and villians are celebrated in The Legend of Zorro, Gladiator and the latin fantasy, El Camino Real.
The concert will also feature 2013 Solo Competition winner, Daniel Hunter, alto saxophone, performing Earle Hagen’s Harlem Nocturne.
