April is all about new beginnings, pale green shoots reaching for the sun, new life and transformation. The Salt Spring Concert Band with director Dawn Hage explores the musical possibilities of this theme in Awakenings. The concert features both traditional and modern compositions such as “Sheep May Safely Graze” by Bach to “Awakening Hills” by Richard Saucedo. The performance also includes gorgeous multi-media presentations to complement both “Earthdance” by Micheal Sweeney and “Laputa – Castle in the Sky” by Joe Hisaishi and poetry readings in the Awakenings theme. In addition, the virtuosic Luanne Katz displays her mallet talents when she joins the percussion section of the Salt Spring Concert Band for this special concert. “Loch Lomond”, “Lord of The Rings”, “When Summer is Just Beginning” and “Paradiso” round out this stunning concert of music that will awaken the spirit and the soul.
