Fri Aug 23, 4pm | Join our artist in residence, pianist and soprano Rachel Fenlon, for an intimate reveal of her upcoming season’s repertoire, a sample of her work, how she made her choices, and an invitation to provide feedback and ask questions as part of the creative process.
Drawing on Schubert and traditional Irish, French, and Scottish folk songs, Rachel will share a few clips as well as talk about the process of shooting her music video trailer for her upcoming album “Winterreise” here on Salt Spring.
Rachel will talk about the album and provide a preview of the concert she’ll be performing as part of ArtSpring’s 2024/25 Season in January.
This soprano and pianist is finding a unique voice on the classical music stages of the world. Drawing from a singer-songwriter approach, Rachel performs recitals as both singer and pianist accompanying herself. Praised for her “unusually shaped recitals in keeping with her extraordinary talent,” Fenlon performs internationally as a recitalist, as solo pianist and singer, and on the opera stage.
She has performed as soprano soloist with orchestras such as the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, the Victoria Symphony, the Northern Czech Philharmonic, Finnish Baroque Ensemble Nylandia, and the Vancouver Bach Choir, and appeared in leading roles with Pacific Opera Victoria, Bard on the Beach, and and at the Rossini Opera Festival.
Rachel was born in the UK, raised on the west coast of Canada, and is now based in Berlin.
