Watch out for a preview roaming the streets of Ganges around noon on Thursday Oct 27 and at the opening of “Surfacing: ArtSpring Gallery Exhibit” at 7 pm on Friday Oct 28 at ArtSpring gallery.
Out Innerspace Dance Theatre will be performing their startling, avant-garde new production, Major Motion Picture. This will be Out Innerspace’s fifth visit to Salt Spring. In previous years, they performed their popular duet, Me So You So Me and their group piece Vessel.
“I had the pleasure of seeing the premiere of Major Motion Picture in Victoria last winter,” says Anna Haltrecht, ArtSpring’s Dance Outreach Coordinator. “It is darkly beautiful, full of mysterious intrigue and haunting imagery with breathtaking originality.” The Victoria Times Colonist describes Out Innerspace’s dancing as “athletic, satisfying and accomplished…This is bold and exciting contemporary dance.”
Choreographed by David Raymond and Tiffany Tregarthen, Major Motion Picture explores timely cultural themes of surveillance, territory, propaganda, and personal belief. Technical effects, particularly projections, are used to great effect in Major Motion Picture, combined with compelling music from Bernard Herrmann, Ennio Morricone, Pulse Percussion Ensemble, Vanalles, Young Gutted and an original composition by Belgian producer Tristan Vloeberghs.
