Indigenous Dance Sampler with Beany John and Yvonne Chartrand – Public Workshop.
Come experience Indigenous dance offerings from Yvonne Chartrand (Métis Jigging) and Beany John (Hoop Dance) in this movement workshop open to everyone. Yvonne will share the joy, love and beauty of Métis culture including traditional and contemporary steps of the Red River Jig known as the national dance of the Métis, some traditional dances and Métis square dances with calls.
Yvonne’s Métis dance knowledge was passed on to her from many Elders and knowledge keepers from across the Métis homeland. Come ready for a fun-loving Métis kitchen party! Wear comfortable clothing, moccasins if you have them, shoes with a wooden heel and leather sole are great, or any leather slipper and even socks can be comfy. Everyone’s welcome. World champion Hoop Dancer Beany John shares about the hoop dance and the importance of creation through the hoop, in a workshop setting welcoming all into movement.
Hoops will be provided. Each artist will offer a sample of their style of dance and short instruction.
Join us for a Saturday afternoon to remember!
