JSIṈSET⏤ ŚW̱ELO₭E: Artist Panel

August 27, 2022 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Curator Rose Spahan moderates a discussion with the Elliott family artists, TEMOSEṈŦET Charles Elliott, Myrna Crossley, TEMOSEṈ Chazz Elliott and Matthew Parlby–Elliott. The artists will share their artistic process as well as stories, both personal and traditional, that inspire their work.

Rose Spahan was given the name “Spakum” by Lekwungen elder Maryann Thomas. This means “flower” and denotes not only Rose’s English name, but also how precious she is. Spakum is from the Paul family in W̱JOȽEȽP (Tsartlip).

She is a multi-media artist with years of experience in curating exhibits, arts administration, and liaising for Indigenous artists in large, collaborative projects. Rose is the recent recipient of the Award of Merit from the BC Museums Association for her exhibit, “Redress: Sacred Obligation”. Her works are found in private collections across Canada, and the US, and reach as far as Ljubjana.
