The youth of GISS Dance are proud to present a collection of thought provoking and innovative artworks. Our new choreography is about expression and self-discovery.  We explore themes of confidence, pushing boundaries and finding our way in the greater society.

At times, we acknowledge and identify the dark negativity of our supposed civilized world and culture.  This insipid influence is countered with the newfound self-confidence of these youth.  A piece of fabric, for example, and the exploration of its movement qualities, stands as a metaphor for realizing the balance between individual actions and co-existence and new ways of moving in the world.

In another piece, the junior GISS dancers offer us a beautiful acceptance of each other in a world of friendship, and support.  In our Hip Hop and Pop dance pieces, the energetic, upbeat nature of youth will excite you. In “Blindness,” the senior class has created a piece about society’s blindness to what’s truly at stake, and coming to the realization of the care we need for the wellbeing of the individual and the community.  

We’ve entitled the show “Becoming” for its statement of emergence, of growth, of self-discovery and the birth of a confident individual within our community.
