This June features the lobby exhibit About Face: Local People Portrayed by Local Artists by the Fulford Portrait Group.
Every Tuesday in Fulford, a group of painters assemble and arrange easels, lights, and a model. They enact the time-honoured, difficult discipline of trying to capture the essence of a person in a three-hour portrait sketch. Many of the artists have worked together for years, contributing to the relaxed yet dedicated focus required to paint well.
Portraiture is a challenging area of artistic study. It requires applied practice to juggle composition, colour, and the topography of the human face. The models used are all from the local community, and you will likely spot some familiar faces as you view this June lobby show.
(The exhibit is open weekdays from 9 to 5.)
