OPENING EVENT: Saturday April 5 | 5pm-7pm
In Hamlet’s “To Be or Not To Be” soliloquy he contemplates life and death, using “Undiscovered Country” as a metaphor for the unknown and mysterious realm from which no one returns. It has now evolved to represent the universal human anxiety about what lies beyond life, the weight of decisions that shape one’s fate, and the uncertainty of venturing into uncharted territory.
With “Undiscovered Country” seven local artists are sharing their interpretations of Shakespeare’s quote. The contemporary exhibition at ArtSpring Gallery offers new works in a rich variety of mediums including photography, mixed media, sculpture, and conceptual art.
The artists have developed deeply personal narratives around this theme which will take visitors on a visual voyage of unknown realms, extending the concept from physical spaces to the human mind and soul.
Exhibiting artists are Susan Benson, Seth Berkowitz, Anna Gustafson, Jane MacKenzie, April Mackey, Anette Schrage, and Michela Sorrentino.
