Help support a group of hard-working Salt Spring youth, who are travelling to the Ecuadorean Amazon in April, by attending this fundraiser – a film screening of the 2016 Academy Award-nominated film Embrace of the Serpent.
The film – winner of the biggest prize at the Cannes Directors’ Fortnight – is a historical fictionalization of two explorers who ventured into the Amazon in the early 20th century. One of those men, Richard Evan Schultes, was the esteemed teacher of Wade Davis. Told from the indigenous perspective, Embrace of the Serpent is constantly on the move through this vast, sacred jungle and deals with the history of colonial oppression, religion and madness. What makes the film so moving and unique is how well it captures the immensity of the jungle and the incredible lives of the people who have existed there for centuries.
All proceeds from this event go towards youth travel to the Ecuadorean Amazon.
