Canada’s Polar Landscapes: Memories of a Geologist Lobby Exhibition

February 4, 2025 @ 10:00 am - February 28, 2025 @ 2:00 pm

The extraordinary landscapes of Nunavut hold many secrets for a geologist with its unobstructed rock exposures due to a position above the treeline and significant fossil sites. For the last 15 years paleontologist Claudia Schröder-Adams conducted field expeditions in Canada’s polar regions to unravel the paleoclimatic history of the Arctic with paleoenvironments vastly different than today’s polar ecosystems.

Around 90 million years ago the Arctic had ice-free periods supporting forests and animal communities that have modern counterparts only in warm latitudes. Claudia invites you to enjoy the striking landscapes including aerial shots from low flying aircraft and to learn about the geological significance of this stunning part of Canada. Displayed images offer a trip into true wilderness where none or very few humans ever have set foot. Claudia remains active in her polar research and would be happy to sell a print of her images if one inspires you.

Tue-Fri 10am-2pm during Box Office hours, and before evening and weekend performances.
