Karen Enns and Ann Scowcroft
2015 marks the 40th anniversary of Brick Books as Canada’s most important poetry publisher. To join in the celebrations, ArtSpring hosts two of Brick’s most recent poets for a special reading from their work on Sunday, January 18 at 4:00pm.
Karen Enns lives in Victoria where for many years she was a concert pianist. Her first collection of poems, That Other Beauty, was nominated for the Gerald Lampert Award in 2010 for the best first book of poems published in Canada. Her second, Ordinary Hours, has just been published. Here is what Patrick Lane says about her work: “…a delicate felicity of phrasing and rhythms that undoes me each time I turn to their quietness.”
Ann Scowcroft lives in Quebec but spends much of her time abroad through her work in the field of humanitarian assistance. Brick published her first book, The Truth of Houses, in 2011. Michael Ondaatje describes the book this way: “…subtle and human, anarchic and generous, intimate as well as far-ranging. … a wonderful first collection of poems.”
