Neglected by musicians, the period of German vocal and instrumental music of the 17th Century is one of the richest times in music history. A veritable treasure-trove of beautiful yet powerfully expressive works have lost none of their impact or appeal. Bach on the Rock presents Before / Bach, a program of some of the best compositions from the 17th century that had a direct influence on the music of J. S. Bach and his contemporaries. We will also perform Bach’s sensational early cantata “Christ lag in Todesbanden”, as well as works by well-known composers Pachelbel (including his famous Canon), Buxtehude, and Telemann. We also offer music by Johann Michael Nicolai, and Johann Bernard Bach (Johann’s 2nd cousin). Come and join us for an afternoon of gorgeous exploration!
