Salt Spring Youth New Creatives (SSYNC) Festival

August 14, 2023 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

The Salt Spring Youth New Creatives (SSYNC) Festival is a new annual summer arts event that showcases original scenes, written and performed, by young people aged 13-18. It will take place on Salt Spring Island and is open to students on Salt Spring Island, Vancouver Island, Vancouver, and beyond.

The festival provides a mentorship opportunity for young writers and actors to create and receive feedback from professional playwrights/dramaturges/actors/directors in a workshop environment. Students will develop acting/writing skills, build confidence, learn the elements of playwriting/ character development, and explore topics, themes, and issues that are important to them. At the end of the week-long experience, a showcase will occur at ArtSpring Community Arts Center, where youth actors will bring the playwrights’ words to life in a public performance.

Mentors include acclaimed industry professionals Natalie Meisner, Jeffrey Renn and Karen Lee White, who will teach storytelling and performance through her Indigenous lens.

The Salt Spring Youth New Creatives Festival (SSYNC) is a collaboration between SSYNC & Graffiti Theatre, in partnership with ArtSpring Community Arts Centre.
