About ArtSpring

ArtSpring acknowledges the unceded territory and the ancestors of Salt Spring Island, the Coast Salish First Nations peoples of Salt Spring and surrounding areas, who continue to use and steward these lands. We at ArtSpring wish to pay respect to the Elders of this land, past and present.

ArtSpring is a community arts centre on Salt Spring Island, BC – one of the Southern Gulf Islands off of Canada’s west coast. The building is an 11,800 square-foot, two-level, heavy timber structure, boasting a 6,600-square-foot, 259-seat theatre, and a 5,200-square-foot exhibition/multi-purpose area. Artists Birgit and Robert Bateman officially opened the building in April 1999.

ArtSpring hosts 300 events each year, primarily associated with rentals by local performing and visual artists, from the professional to school groups. Our curated season – ArtSpring Presents – features events that are chosen to complement and enhance what is already available through local arts organizations.

About our charitable organization

Since 1989 the Island Arts Centre Society and ArtSpring have enjoyed the steadfast support of dedicated and committed volunteers. Every day, volunteers make it possible for ArtSpring to deliver its many important services and programs. From staffing the Box Office to ushering at concerts, and from supporting administration to participating in fundraisers, volunteers contribute a staggering 6,000 hours per year.

Roughly the same number of hours are put in by staff. The full-time executive director leads five part-time staff and a full-time technical director. The society is governed by a volunteer board of directors.

Please consider becoming a part of Salt Spring Island’s exciting, thriving and fast growing centre for the performing and visual arts. Contact Us to find out more.
