Funds will be raised through three days of silent auction culminating in a live auction gala with auctioneer Walter Stewart – all held in ArtSpring’s beautiful timber-framed building.

On July 18th, ArtSpring will open its doors to a silent auction extravaganza with 700 (and counting) items valued at over $100,000. Funds raised go directly into the operations and sustainability of ArtSpring as Salt Spring’s largest community arts centre.

The money raised will help ArtSpring maintain and evolve the community’s use of the 259-seat theatre, box office and online ticketing services, 3 galleries with artist workspace, meeting room, lobby, extensive grounds surrounding the building, and parking lots.

Treasure Fair is coming soon — July 18-20. Here’s a reminder from Charlotte Priest, our new coordinator, on what to expect:

When I was a teenager my mother and I would sometimes sit down with a cup of tea after a long day and watch the Antiques Roadshow. It was an odd interest for a teenager but I found it soothing. We delighted in watching people’s surprised expressions when they were told the value of their treasures. It was something I would never admit to my peers at the time, of course, though I find myself chuckling at how life comes full circle sometimes. Here I am delighting in the donated items that are beginning to come through the doors of ArtSpring!

The 2019 Treasure Fair is underway! If you have something you or someone else would consider a treasure, and you’re willing to part with it, we would gratefully add it to our catalogue for the silent or live auction. Here’s a small sample of the range of items and experiences we’ve received in the past: antique furniture, crystal, silver, artwork, textiles, day cruises, lessons, spa treatments, china, a condo in Maui for a week, and so much more.

Come help us celebrate Treasure Fair’s 19th year! There isn’t a better time to get to know and support the arts centre that means so much to our community. The dozens of enthusiastic volunteers who make this event happen will be on hand to greet you, show you around, and share their enthusiasm for Treasure Fair and ArtSpring in general. It’s sure to be a great weekend. See you then!

On April 18, ArtSpring celebrated their incredible volunteers. Thank you to everyone!

Every detail behind ArtSpring has had its hand touched by a volunteer – amazingly, they defy acts of strength, skill, stamina and ultimately give more and more each year. Many hands have built us up from the ground and nearly twenty years later, we’re thriving due to these steady hands & hearts.

Thank you to everyone who came to celebrate with us!

ArtSpring has over 200 people who give their time and enthusiasm to our year-round events. We couldn’t operate without them. From ushers to technical support, box office to grounds maintenance, admin support to billeting. They’re the people you meet when you come to our shows, and they’re the ones you don’t see as they work tirelessly behind the scenes. Some of our volunteers have even been with us since day one! We’d love to hear from you if you’d like to a part of this dedicated team.

ArtSpring. For those who know and love it, there’s no need for introductions or reminders of its value. For the uninitiated, the arts and culture soul of Salt Spring Island was officially opened by Robert Bateman in April 1999 and has been provoking creativity and inspiration ever since. The beautiful building boasts a theatre and exhibition rooms that allow everyone from school children to budding and accomplished artists to meet, develop, and showcase their work. This facility hosts roughly 300 events from far and wide each year and approximately 75% of those are community created and presented. You won’t see higher calibre entertainment at a more affordable price anywhere.

ArtSpring has seen an increase in guests using its public piano located in the Jankura lounge. Many talented pianists are spending hours pouring over scores or realizing their own musical creations. We are so pleased to announce that ArtSpring is the fortunate recipient of a donated newer Heintzman piano with the help of Jim Anderson of Acoustic Pianocraft. The new piano has arrived and is professionally tuned.

The increase of users is a delight to all, we are graced with multiple performances of pianists, violinists, singers, and even recently a dancer. ArtSpring offers free use of their Janukura Lounge piano Monday thru Friday from 9 am to 5 pm and encourages the community to check out these impromptu performances while visiting ArtSpring!
