Make Tom Allen’s Day

If you happened to be listening to Tom Allen’s CBC Radio 2 programme on September 17, you may remember him telling the national audience that (to paraphrase somewhat): “There are many good reasons to envy those who live on Salt Spring Island, but the chance to hear pianist Martin Helmchen on November 26 is surely one of them.” Tom had just finished playing a recording of Helmchen playing something or other and found him an amazing performer.

November 26 is almost upon us, and Martin Helmchen (and his wife, cellist Marie-Elisabeth Hecker, a no less distinguished musician) are on their way. When they get here on Monday they will play some wonderful repertoire by Bach, Schumann, Beethoven and Schubert. Here is what George Ehring says about the specific pieces on the programme: “Nice! Good to see they’re not doing the same-old, same-old.”

If you don’t have your tickets for this excellent recital, call the Box Office now  at 250-537-2102 (or get them online).
