The role of the Roman Catholic Church, patrons, and the State in the evolution of Western Art music from the Middle Ages to the 20th Century. Along with lots of good music, we’ll explore art and architecture, peasant life and high society, famine and plague, and plenty of strange goings-on. You’ll even find out why and when the Parisians had Le Civet de Kangarou and Le Chat flanqué de Rats on the menu. You’ll learn a bit about changing form and structure in music, and why that happened, but no special musical knowledge is necessary. One lucky patron will have his or her full registration fee returned in gift certificates to ArtSpring events.
Six Sunday afternoons, 1:30 to 4:00, from January 22 to February 26, 2012 in the Theatre at ArtSpring.
$50 per person, $80 per couple. Tea will be served, but not kangaroo. All proceeds go to ArtSpring.
