Gary has exhibited his ceramic work for many years on Salt Spring and as far a field as Japan. This exhibition will focus on his graphic and sculptural directions. Graphic works will include paintings and digital prints with loads of colour. Relief wall pieces are constructed with diverse materials, presenting juxtapositions bordering on the surreal. Sculptural works in clay, wood and metal have an architectural flavour and are the intimate scale of models or maquettes.

The show promises to be racy but not x-rated. Kids are welcome and there is a good old-fashioned parlour game for all ages to enjoy. Opening reception is Friday, August 5, 5-7pm.

August 13-21 10:00am to 5:00pm daily

Raised on the Sunshine Coast and with an academic background in biology and landscape ecology, Garry Gray now resides on Salt Spring. In his latest showings, Garry reveals the natural world in dazzling works in watercolours and acrylics. His paintings express the subtle seasonal light modes of our natural environments. Mountain, forest, beach, and underwater scenes, walk the viewer throughout the rich natural environments, using vivid colours and crisp lines. Garry invites the general public to view his efforts to calm the unquiet soul.

“Strange, Captivating. The Toeac Accordionduo from the Netherlands is refreshing and unusual. Their performance was a musical tour de force and seeing them was an unusual experience that kept one absorbed till the end” – Anna-Retha Bouwer, South Africa

Fiddleworks Instructors Showcase

Sunday, August 14 7:30pm

Fiddleworks’ Instructors Showcase Concert features the incredibly talented professional musicians on staff at our 12th Annual Salt Spring Fiddle Camp. This year, our feature performers are the April Verch Band, award winning Old Time fiddler and musicologist Erynn Marshall from Kentucky and long time Salt Spring fiddler and camp organizer Zav RT. There will also be solo performances and collaborations from the wild cellist Corbin Keep, bluegrass multi-instrumentalists and vocalists Lynae & Denis Dufresne, well loved fiddler & vocalist Trish Clair-Peck of Nanaimo BC, Ottawa Valley pianist Geoff Horrocks, and percussionist extraordinaire Ryan Dignan. This is always one of the most amazing folk shows of the year to grace ArtSpring’s stage, and the concert’s proceeds fund bursaries for low income families to attend fiddle camp.

Month of August

Although academically-trained as a research hydrobiologist, Dr. John Mason’s interests have always embraced the arts, both visual and literal. First encounters may demand a painting, followed by a poem, or visa-versa. Hence, he includes in his showings several examples of painting-poem combinations to illustrate his inclinations.

Garry Gray, who is also exhibiting in the Bateman Gallery this month, reveals the natural world in dazzling works in watercolours and acrylics. His paintings express the subtle seasonal light modes of our natural environments.
